Feeling Australian?

Yay, holiday today, it is Australia Day! For me, everyday as long as I live in Australia, it is Australia Day! The sky is blue, light breeze in the air, every man and dogs on the street are donning on their Australian flag shirt, flag tatoo, queing up at the local bakery for more hotdog rolls and lamingtons! Pretty much carrying on in the good old Aussie way!

And what can be more Australian when JD decided to make himself a piece of fairy bread this morning. I think for kids, fairy bread is the best thing since sliced bread! To me, it is a day glued to the Australian Open! Yep, that's how I will be spending my Australia Day, and no doubt with with few intermitent interruptions from my 2.5 yo for some Playdoh and mini golf sessions!

We won't be going to the foreshore to see the fireworks display, coz JD could probably still be a bit little to appreciate it all. Instead, we will have a quiet night at home, throw some chicken patties and bangers on the barbie, with some salad and rolls! That's still Australian eh!

Now, just a little version of JD's interpretation of hotdogs! OK, why do we call it hotdogs? Instead JD had a more sophisticated way of calling it, Sausage Bread! While at Bunnings one day and walking past the hotdog stall, JD called out Sausage Bread! And I thought to myself, huh? What sausage bread? Ah..then I figure out that it was sausage in a bread roll, therefore it is sausage bread! Clap, clap for JD, pretty cool eh! Ha ha!

Weekend, bring it on!

Hee hee hee, this is Saturday morning, 8am, and JD is till in bed, ha ha ha! The only reason I am so excited is because JD is normally an early bed, 6am and he is already singing, playing, ready to face the day! Gosh, give me my coffee!

The washing is done, housework also all done, I have had my breakie and coffee, I feel good! Weekend, bring it on!

A few things I want to do this weekend:

- Pick up my new prescription sunglasses from the shop
- Buy some new clothes, not a lot, just a few
- Eat Dim Sum
- Go visit my butcher, wanna make beef brisket noodle soup
- Bake some yummy cake for JD

And chill out and relax.

I want my Friday back!!!

A number of months ago, and for over a year, Friday was a me and JD's day. It's the day when I have reserved to spend time with him, and not go into the office at all. We used to spend time going for morning walks, getting the paper, go to activities, meet up with friends, and for me to catch up with all the errands in the house. It was nice then!

I have lost my Fridays for a while now, mainly due to extra work commitment and stuffs around the house just gets into a whole heap of neglected mess! Week after week, it stares at me, my pile of clothes to be ironed has been staring at me, "Iron me, iron me, please...don't wait till when you feel like wearing me". The wooden floor doesn't trap dust but I could feel it needs a good vacumm and mop when I walk on it...I have dried Playdoh around the house...I haven't spent my Friday baking yummy cakes and cookies with JD...I miss that terribly!

Having to do a big clean up of the house with an almost 2.5 yo hanging around is kinda hard! At this age, JD loves having me playing with him, whether it be making Playdoh, making crafts, cooking, JD playing the brain surgeon, of JD being the grocery cashier...He finds every opportunity for me to sit down at his little table and having a play and dialogue with him.

He will pop his head around and asked me "Mommy finished yet?" when he sees me busy cleaning the house, poor kiddo!

I want my Friday back!!!!!!

Just a quick one...

This was my first week back at work after being on leave for over 2 weeks. Man, it was hard trying to drag myself back to work. First day was a struggle, but it subsequently got better and it was all great by Friday.

So, just a quick run down of my week:

- Struggling to get into work on the 1st day
- In bed by 8pm most nights, too tired to be staying up
- Locked myself in a quiet room for most of the week, listening to interview tapes, another part of my job
- Looking forward to seeing JD at the end of the day
- Cooked dinner at home every day of the week
- Caught up with hubby for lunch during the week
- Had a crave for cranberry juice
- Bought a new digital weighing scale
- Met up with friends for dinner
- Had Mcdonald's breakfast
- Went to Freo market
- Had corn on the cob, German sausage, bought shoes for hub and JD

And what better way to finish off a wonderful weekend with some home made curry puffs this afternoon!

Hubby had 8, I had 3, JD had 2! Still another 10 sitting in the fridge for tomorrow!

Dr. Scary

I bought JD a doctor's set for his Xmas. A good idea then, but what follows from his play was kinda disturbing, ha ha! JD's puppy is not feeling that well and instead of sending him off to the vet, JD (aka Dr.Scary) decided to do the job himself.

I guess a good thing that came out of his play was JD was no longer that afraid of needle. Not long after Xmas, I brought him for his Pneumococcal vaccination, and this little man did not even cry or whinge a little bit. Compared to previous times, he used to be the kid that screamed and cried the loudest in the clinic and always draw the most sympathy from other moms and nurses, hee hee!

He was happy as usual this time, had a reward of jelly bean from the nurse after the needle before toddling off!

tonic up!

I have been feeling a bit weary and under the weather in the last number of weeks. If I ain't tired, then I would be geting the odd cold and flu. It is getting frustrating and this can't go on forever. Anyway, remembering what Mr. Herbie once said to me, apparently my "chi" very low, so very easy to fall sick. Therefore I need to eat stuff that tonified my blood and to keep my energy up.

So, after dropping JD off at daycare this morning, I came home to make a red bean soup with red dates and dried longan! It seem a little crazy to be making the red bean soup when it is 37 deg c outside and with full air conditioning on at the same time. Call it insane, but this is living in Australia during summer, ha ha!

The red bean soup was yummy, I had a small bowl of it after lunch and fell asleep not long after that. Lazy bone! But this is the last day of my break before going back to work next week, whaooooo! No more sleep ins and afternap snooze for a while...sob sob!

a safety thing?

JD had a bike helmet that he loves! We haven't gone bike riding for a while coz he was getting too heavy to sit at the back and pedaling uphill with a 15kg toddler behind takes more than strength and energy! So, the helmet has been left sitting in his room. Lately he has rediscovered it and had been insisting on wearing his helmet everywhere he goes...

- when he plays in the backyard just in case the sky falls on his head (words according to his daddy)
- when he sits in the car seat
- when he eats
- when he roams around in the house
- when he watches the Wiggles

and I have had to bargain with him every morning before going to daycare that he is not allowed to bring his helmet there for a zillion times. Ah.....kids.....you love them but they can drive you crazy!

Welcome 2006!

12 wonderful months have passed,
Another wonderful year we have celebrated,
With a brighter one here today,
May we all look forward to 2006,
With courage, excitement, hope
And happiness, love, God's grace
To see us all through! Amen!

Good times never change

My sista Shir was here for Xmas recently. The last time she came to Perth was around July 2004. That was around 18 months ago.

A few things have changed since then...

- JD was a crawler 18 mths ago and my sis used to entertain him with crawling competition in the house
- JD is now a fast walker, runner, and my sis now has to entertain him with mini golf in the backyard, dancing, riding bike around the house, giving him food, jumping around with him, bending forward and backward a zillion times to pick up stuff after JD, hee hee

But good times also never change - JD and Aunty Shir enjoying a biscuit and a cup of coffee (in JD's case, it would be hot chocolate) together!
