highest n lowest

This has been a busy and tiring week for us all. I have been on the road for a few days, going from one place to another. It was a good work trip, but a tiring one. This time round, hubby had to play Mr.Mom doing everything from dropping and picking kiddo up from child care, dressing him, making him dinner, bathing him, reading him books, puting him to bed etc etc. According to hubby, JD missed his mommy during that few days :(

Sign of JD missing his mommy = Standing at the front door calling mommy....

But happy moments were seeing JD again on Friday n seeing the cheeky smile on his face when I baked him his fav "Honey Snaps". New thing JD does these days when he sees me baking in the kitchen - "Cake, yummy". Ha ha, this little man loves his food.

a bubbly sat morning

Today has propbably been one of the better days we had in terms of weather! Finally the sun was out, birds were once again chirping away happily in the garden. I could do some decent washing and JD could play in the garden again. It was still chilly but at least it wasn't raining. As I am still nursing this damn cold, we didn't go swimming at all, and I let JD spent most of the morning....

And he sometimes drinks the water, oh yucks....

and rest of the time helping me with the washing by passing the pegs to me, kicking ball, blowing bubbles, chasing bubbles, popping bubbles!
It was a fun filled morning!

over the hill at 22 months

A 22 months old toddler can have lots of imagination. Sometimes I wonder what goes on in his little mind when he does something that I wasn't quite ready for or when he sits in his play room mucking around with his toys. Lately though, I have noticed a few keen interest of his :)

fahion guru....
Lately JD has become a little boss of his own wardrobe! I am wondering if fashion sense could actually start kicking in at such a tender age of 22 months (or perhaps 22 mths going on 22yo!?) Oh my god, everything he wears these days must have picture of a car, train or balls! He has this Tigger shirt which has a soccer ball on it, a PJ full of balls printed all over it, a robe with Thomas the Tank, a raincoat with a red car on it....anything else, we will have a battle! And he likes all things red and blue! He must have his blue beanie and red shoes on before going out!

banker....
JD likes coins...or maybe money $$$. He likes the clanking noises of the coins when he puts them all in a box and shakes them. He can see the POWER of money! He knows mommy can buy lots of yummy food with money...and he knows mommy can put $2 in a toy car to make it move. He has a little box of 50c coins where he spends his day stacking the coins up high and go "WOW". And since we borrow the grocery store setup back from the toy library, he has been playing the cashier, and giving me change each time I buy an apple or orange from him, hee hee. When we go to the shops, he will take a 20c coin out from my purse and insist the cashier taking the money from him, oh dear! And the funniest thing is, he even gives me pocket money before I go to work in the morning. He gets terribly upset if I don't take the money from him, but let's just hope I wouldn't try to buy a coffee with one of his "Little Tikes" coins! And a new word to his vocabulary "buy".....

chef....
JD likes to play with masak! He likes to cook, and I think that's because he likes his tucker! He enjoys making me bottomless cups of tea and expects me to take a big sip from it each time! And when I am not watching, he will open up my kitchen drawer and start playing with the egg whisk (his favourite), thongs, spatula, colander, bowls, plates, mugs, and lately my treasured coffee plunger!

not happy chappy

I have been down with a nasty cold over the last few days. It started with fever, body aches, headache, sore throat and now I have lost my voice and battling with a nasty cough. I have now resorted to whispering because people can actually understand me better that way than trying to speak with a croaky voice! I am not feeling that crash hot at all today, coz I cough so hard that my head hurts and my eyes get all watery....And the reality is you can never just lie down and rest like the good ol' days. You still have to get up in the morning to make breakie for your child, bring him to the park for a run, be around when he needed you, take him outside to have a play, make him his favourite vegemite sandwich, read him his favourite book and etc etc. (I am not complaining...just merely wishing I could have a bit of my old days back).

Best medicine for this cold: Take a sick day from work, drop the kid off at daycare and sleep for the whole day.

sharing is caring

Best seat in the house Posted by Hello

Isn't it nice when someone shares something special with you. As little kids, we were always taught to share things around, sharing your favourite toys with a friend, sharing half of your cookie with your sister, etc etc ... and now that I am a mum, I tend to find myself repeating the same old trade. "JD, share your toys around" "JD, can you give mommy some of your cookies please...." "JD, can you give some milk to your puppy please"...the list goes on and on. Sometimes I go around wondering if anything I said get registered in his mind : ) Uh huh, you see, this is when I have once again underestimated the power of his little think tank! Well, the little ones have their ways of showing what they know in their funniest little ways!

Tonight while getting ready for dinner (curry chicken n rice), JD refused to sit down in his high chair. He insisted on sitting at the coffee table which I guiltily obliged (coz mommy has a massive headache 2day)....Fine, I thought! So, I grabbed JD's stool expecting him to sit down! He turned around and said "No mommy". Already struggling with a headache, I let it go...So off he went into the kitchen, brought out an empty tin with a HUGE grin on his face, and happily sat on the tin while letting his puppy had the best seat! I was stunned, gobsmacked and eventually walked away with a smile on my face.

And yes, there was a bit of "one for me, one for the puppy" going on during his dinner. Unfortunately, puppy need a bit of a wipe after that! But hey, it was cute to watch all that happening coz he was sharing and saving the best seat for someone special (though it wasn't me) hee hee!

rainy day

errrr..nothing new n exciting to report on these couple of days. It is raining cats and dogs here , wet wet wet everywhere u go! Traffic on the road was bad, sky was already dark by 5.30pm, but a perfect day to be hanging around in the house. But JD likes the rain though, he likes the feel of the rain drops n splashing around in a puddle of water...fun but not so good when he did it in the morning before going to daycare, doh!

Apart from the rain, I pretty much spent most of my day in the house and going through some old photos on the computer. But I came across this one that we took in Melbourne a few yrs ago. It reminded me of a cold winter day in Melboune and we (my sis, me and hubby) drove along the Great Ocean Drive searching for the 12 Apostles...it was one of the most wonderful trips I have ever had. It was a long drive, freaking cold but FUN!

noodle soup n the puppet show

This has been a good day and I have managed the 3rd day in a row solely entertaining JD while daddy's been busy with work. I never quite understand why we work 5 days a week 10 hrs a day in the office, bringing work home every night and still working for at least 4-6 hrs a day in the weekend, brrrrrrr.........maybe it is something common, maybe it means u dun have to be actively involved in the house..but I thought it is different when you have a kid ....argggggrrrrrr...not impressed!

But, that aside, we still had a good day! JD slept in till 8am, whoopeedo! And I slept in till 7.30am which is a rarity for me since becoming a mum! I am normally up by 5.30am to get myself ready for work or to the gym by 6am n geting kiddo ready for cc before heading off to work. So, any chance of sleeping in is a bliss! But MIL and great-MIL was coming around this morning, so it was ginormously important for me to get JD ready and making sure he is dressed up in the FULL winter gear - singlets, long sleeve tshirt, thick jumper, long pants, socks and a beanie. MIL always think that JD is cold!!??

Knowing that they are always late, JD and I managed to squeeze in a 30mins pram power walk in the refreshingly misty morning. It was fresh, crisp n refreshing! True enuf, they arrived some 45mins later than promised, ah well! And the house was more than "atmospheric" than normal when they were around, lots of chatters (loud chatters) with topics ranging from his delights with food, to the Wiggles, to planning his birthday presents (oh dear, I have not even given it any thoughts!), potty, frequencies of JD's poo poo (that's a bit personal, dun u think?), benefits of aloe vera juice, bad breath (what the!?), my garden n talks of other ppl (which I dun quite enjoyed)....

Then it was lunch, and there, that was the hearty bowl of beef brisket kway teow soup we had! Gosh, it was good, heartwarmingly good...with steam in the air and all quietly n quickly slurpping away b4 it gets cold! And it always feels extra special when u have made it yourself at home.

JD was pretty tired after all the excitements in one morning and once again had a 3hrs solid afternoon nap! And mommy finally put her feet up, had a cuppa and did a bit of surfing. And I came across this really cool site www.enchantedlearning.com with lots of wonderful craft ideas for kids of all ages! I decided to make a few hand puppets for JD with characters he is most familiar with this term in Gymbaroo - Humpty Dumpty, Jack n Jill, and the elephants!

It was fun making it and even more fun while playing with it this evening! JD would do the full action thing with the Humpty Dumpty song, and giggling away happily each time I made Humpty dissapear from the stage and singing "Where is Humpty, where is Humpty, here I come, here I come?"....it was great fun!

So, here ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the cast of the "JD Puppet Show"

monkeying around

monkeying around Posted by Hello

This being the long weekend means lots of monkeying around at home, hee hee hee! I am in a cooking mood this weekend and has spend most of my day in the kitchen churning up dishes of all kind. But before then, I headed off to the gym first up in the morning at 7am, and obviously a better reason for me to work out if I were to enjoy some cooking and sampling, hee hee! I hurt my ankle a week ago while doing aerobics...obviously not paying enough attention in the class (yeh, blame it on the buff looking instructor). So, I am pretty much limited to upper body workout in the last week, but hey, at least I can work on my abs and biceps! Then I headed off to the toy library to get new toys out for JD and being a long weekend, means we need extra activities for this little tiger. Then there is swimming lesson for JD and today is daddy's turn for going into the water with him. I headed into town to get some fresh meat and asian groceries..oh and stop by at a nearby teahouse to take away some siu mau, har kau and char siu pao for lunch. And then I was straight into the kitchen making stewed beef brisket for tomorrow's lunch, beef casserole for tonight's dinner! I even got stuck into some blogging fun while the the stew and casserole are happily simmering away in the kitchen...and I feel so geekily excited about my new found blogging interest. This is too much fun! And when I needed a break, I was back into the kitchen again making banana and blueberries muffins! Ah, this is gastronomy delight! And where is the monkey while all these blogging and cooking businesses are going on? He slept for 3 hours in the arvo and was happily amusing himself with the motor race track and playing a grocery store person selling me oranges and apples for 20 cents for the rest of the day! Bargain!

tgif

fridays...yeh! woo hoo! Fridays are good because I don't usually work on Fridays! It's my day off, the day when I spend time with my little man! We tend to sleep in on Friday mornings, go for nice long walks in the now wintery crisp morning, get the paper, sit down for coffee at a nearby cafe before heading off to his kiddy gym! It's a day when I catch up with other mums while JD catch up with his little friends! Lately, we have been visiting Mcdonalds after his kiddy gym session, hee hee and JD gets a little treat of chicken nuggets! He luves it and gives me a grin each time he dip his nugget in the bbq sauce before munching it all down!

moments like this

Yesterday evening while playing with JD at home, he surprised me with one of the sweetest things he has ever done! Jayden has a little toy puppy that he loves! I was lying down on the floor using his puppy as my support pillow while playing "horse" with him and singing "we going up, we going up, we going way up high, we going down, going down......."

And like all kids do, JD got bored with it after about 5 mins and wanted his puppy back. So, I lied back on the floor again, not really minding the cold n hard wooden floor while watching a bit of "Big Brother"!

But JD quickly rushed back with a pillow, stood behind me, and said "there, there"....it didn't make sense to me initially. But soon I realised he has brought a pillow for me to lie on.....

Ah, is moment like this that makes my heart goes all warm and fuzzy! He is such a sweet little kid...love ya JD!
